Arizona Congressman Tom O’Halleran Checks Conditions At San Luis Regional Detention Facility
Democratic Rep. Tom O’Halleran on Friday visited the San Luis Regional Detention and Support Center Facility near Yuma.
He said unlike the terrible conditions reported in Texas and New Mexico, the Yuma facility which is used to transition detainees, is well run.
“They’re required to feed people at 3,200 calories per day. They’re required to have nurses in place at the establishment. Everybody that comes through goes through a complete physical. And there’s mental health help available when needed," he said.
O’Halleran also said the officials he spoke to at the facility told him they have not seen a huge influx of gang members on the borders of California and Arizona and that most of their detainees are families trying to escape dire conditions.
