Goodyear Students Taken To Hospital After Taking Pills
Goodyear police say they don’t know what kind of pills seven students took that led to six of them being rushed to the hospital Tuesday.
The students attend Centerra Mirage School, a STEM academy, and ranged from 12 to 15 years old.
Goodyear police spokeswoman Lisa Kutis said two of the children are being questioned about giving pills to the students.
"One was found unresponsive in the lunchroom, six went to the school nurse with stomach discomfort, feeling lethargic, things of that nature,” Kutis said.
Avondale Elementary School District superintendent Betsy Hargrove said school officials don’t think this is a pattern.
“We believe this to be an isolated incident," Hargrove said. "Certainly one that we want to learn from.”
Hargrove said the district has contacted families of the affected students and will call or email the other students’ parents.
