Daniel Schay, 'Pivotal Member Of Theater Community,' Dies

Daniel Schay, executive director of Theater Works in Peoria, died Thursday, the day before opening night of the company’s season finale, the comedy “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.” He was 63 years old.

Before working in Peoria, Schay was managing director at Phoenix Theatre.

Theater blog Phoenix Stages called Schay a "pivotal member of the theater community," and Peoria Mayor Cathy Carlat released a statement remembering him as a pillar in Peoria, too.

Schay was a Yale graduate, moved to Arizona and 20 years ago helped found the Sedona International Film Festival.

He is survived by his wife and son.
