Jimmy Jenkins

Senior Field Correspondent

Jimmy Jenkins is a Senior Field Correspondent at KJZZ.

Originally from Terre Haute, Indiana, Jenkins has a B.S. in Criminology from Indiana State University.

After spending a decade as a newspaper and magazine freelance reporter, Jenkins returned to school and earned his Masters Degree in Journalism from Indiana University.

His Masters studies led to a job at NPR member station WFIU in Bloomington, Indiana where Jenkins was a reporter and producer for two years. Already an NPR fan, he found his voice on public radio.

Law enforcement runs in Jenkins’ family and much of his reporting has focused on the criminal justice system.

As a feature reporter covering the Indiana Statehouse, Jenkins detailed a major re-haul of Indiana’s Felony Criminal Code. His other reporting has dealt with Methamphetamine use, designer drug legislation and the Prison Rape Elimination Act. At KJZZ Jenkins has reported on Tasers, body cameras, use of force, prison privatization and former Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Jenkins has also reported on energy policy, politics and the environment. He has contributed to All Things Considered, Marketplace, Here and Now, The Takeaway and NPR Newcasts.

In his free time Jenkins likes to read, travel and listen to his ever-growing vinyl record collection – but NPR is always on in the background.
